7 Easy Vegan Swaps For Veganuary
Whether you’re already vegan, taking part in veganuary or just looking to make some easy vegan swaps, we have some ideas to get you started.
1. The Light on Candles
Natural candles are often made with beeswax or a beeswax blend. Our candles are vegan and made by a small specialist team in Suffolk who hand-finish each one, including carefully positioning the natural ingredients in our Botanical Candles which contain real pieces of pink pepper, dried orange slices, cloves, star anise and more.

2. Power Proteins
There’s a lot of buzz around protein, as well as avoiding ultra-processed foods, so getting enough of the good stuff can seem daunting. The trick with protein in a vegan (or vegetarian) diet is to combine different sources to make sure you’re eating all nine essential amino acids (the different types of protein your body needs but can’t make itself). Think of vegan proteins in three categories: nuts and seeds; whole grains (such as brown rice, buckwheat or quinoa); and beans, lentils and chickpeas. Then try to combine foods from at least two out of the three categories in each meal. Did you know that some vegetables such as edamame beans, broccoli and sweet potato also contain some protein?
3. Harmonious Haircare
Haircare such as shampoos, conditioners and styling products often contain unnecessary animal-derived ingredients and we’re still surprised and extremely disappointed to see how many companies still test on animals. We never have and never will test on animals and are certified by The Vegan Society, which has a useful tool to find vegan products.

4. A Clean Smile
Also with an accreditation from The Vegan Society is The Humble Co., which create environmentally friendly toothcareproducts including plant-based brush heads for popular electrical toothbrush models, manual toothbrushes, toothpastes, floss and more. Beyond their eco and vegan credentials, The Humble Co. also give 1% of all sales to oral-health charities worldwide.
5. Sustainable Supplements
British brand Dr.Vegan are recognised for their environmental credentials and 100% vegan ingredients. Products include an algae-derived omega-3 and daily multi-vitamin formulated with vegans in mind. They share our ethos of working with sustainable producers and steer clear of nasty additives, allergens and preservatives. Dr.Vegan also have a clever diet analysis app that makes nutrition and supplement recommendations based on your health goals and current diet. You can take a look here:
6. Marvellous Milks
Quitting dairy doesn’t mean you need to give up your flat white. Almond milk works well in cooking and oat milk is a popular choice for hot drinks – though it is higher in sugar than nut and hemp milks. If you are avoiding seed oils (which are often added to ‘barista’-style plant milks) but like a frothy coffee then add a tiny drop of olive oil to your plant milk before frothing and watching it transform.
7. Shower Gels & Body Lotions
Instead of using animal-derived ingredients in our luxurious Bath & Shower Gels and Body Lotions we’ve worked with local producers and conservationists to create unique natural extracts that showcase the best of the British Isles. These include Yorkshire Rhubarb in our Rhubarb Rhubarb! collection, organic Beetroots in our Fireside collection and sustainably sourced Pine and Heather in our Scots Pine collection.
