Autumn and Halloween home decoration tips and ideas

Do you make any changes to your home for the start of autumn or decorate for Halloween? At this time of year there are many boring but necessary jobs such as clearing drains, having the chimney swept, checking the boiler or ordering logs but a few small changes to your home styling can help you create a home sanctuary that feels inviting and nurturing. Here we’ve shared some ideas and inspiration to get you started:

Bring the Outside In

Gather pine cones, acorns, apples, squashes, pumpkins and seasonal branches to decorate your table and fireplace. Take a look here for inspiration. You can find an array of different-sized and shaped miniature pumpkins and squashes at farmers’ markets and supermarkets. Pick your favourites for decorations – they last a while and can then be used to make delicious autumn soups, salads and stews.

Dress the Table

You don’t need to wait for a dinner party to dress the table. As the days get shorter, adding a Scented Candle to the table and lighting it at breakfast or in the evening adds an instant touch of cosy decadence. For autumn, we love the warm, spicy notes of Fireside, the wooded spice fragrance of Whisky & Water and the sappy green notes of Pinewood.

Leaf Craft

Create a leaf garland by collecting autumn leaves and using a needle and thread to string them together. Hang across a fireplace or above a bed or the dining table. For a longer-lasting garland you can preserve the leaves in a flower press or between sheets of blotting paper weighed down with heavy books. For Halloween, cut the leaves into bat shapes or paint them white and add ghost faces before hanging them in the window or stringing them from a branch.

Autumn Welcome

Don’t forget the entrance to your home – you can welcome guests, and delight passers-by, with an autumn wreath on your door or a garland of dried leaves or hops on your porch. You can also place a cluster of pumpkins by your entrance way to enchant guests then use the same pumpkins to decorate for the spooky Halloween festivities. Adding a luxurious Reed Diffuser to your hall with a seasonal scent such as Whisky & Water creates a welcome for the senses as soon asyou open the door.

Temping Textiles

Drape and layer blankets on sofas and beds, swap over to a thicker duvet or add an electric blanket to your bed. Opt for the warm colours of copper, walnut, saffron and olive to evoke fallen leaves, gingerbread and golden autumn light and sunsets.

Layered Lighting

An interior designer’s trick for creating a cosy ambiance is to mix ‘layers’ of different lighting – so rather than just one primary light source consider mixing lamps, decorative lighting such as fairy lights, softer lighting and scented Candles.

Scents of the Season

Be inspired by the best boutique hotels and don’t forget scent. Refresh your bathroom or kitchen sink with a new Hand Wash and Lotion such as Golden Harvest with its notes of mellow fruits. Or revive your space with a few spritzes of a luxurious Room Fragrance such as Pinewood or Golden Harvest. Finally, dot luxurious scented Candles and fine fragrance Reed Diffusers around your home. Our luxurious Botanical Candles are hand-made and use real botanicals to decorate the wax, creating a stunning centrepiece for autumn and beyond.
