Summer Skincare : Protect your skin
An expert guide to radiant summer skin
Summer is finally here, but do you feel your skin is looking a bit lacklustre? Our skin forms a protective barrier to the outside world and its surface has its own microbiome, optimum pH and natural rhythm of renewal to help it look its best. Temperature changes and months hibernating inside can leave your skin looking dry and feeling tighter and more sensitive. The good news is that with a few simple changes your skin can look and feel its best.
Exfoliate and bathe
Dry skin brushing may sound like a chore, but it only takes three to five minutes and by stimulating the body’s lymphatic system it leaves your skin instantly invigorated and smoother. Brush your skin in long, upward, dynamic, sweeping movements before you shower or bathe. Choose a Bath & Shower Gel with active ingredients that will rinse away dead skin cells and nourish your skin.
Our Summer Rising Bath & Shower Gel is enriched with antioxidant Gooseberries and a skin-soothing extract of Elderflower from Cornwall’s Lost Gardens of Heligan, while our best-selling Rhubarb Rhubarb! contains a unique natural extract of Yorkshire Rhubarb, which is a natural skin-cleanser. All of our Bath & Shower gels utilise the best natural ingredients, are sustainable, vegan, and made in our own Cheshire factory.
Lock in moisture
After bathing, lock in moisture and help protect the skin’s barrier with a Body Lotion or Hydrator. Our Golden Harvest Body Hydrator is light, easily absorbed and leaves a fine veil of moisture. You can amplify your favourite fragrance by choosing a matching Bath & Shower Gel and Body Lotion.
Loose layers and natural fabrics
Let your skin breathe by choosing natural fabrics such as linen or cotton, which are both naturally thermally regulating. Linen is naturally airy and light and is a great choice in terms of sustainability. Linen is made from flax, which requires little water, can be grown without fertilisers or pesticides and removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. What’s more, if you live in the British Isles linen is a more local choice as 85% of the world’s flax is grown in Europe.
Vitamin D
For years we’ve been told to seek the shade and wear sunscreen. While it’s important to protect your skin, spending a short amount of time in the sun each day helps your body to make vitamin D, which is vital for mood regulation, sleep, bone strength and the immune system. Most people can safely spend up to 20 minutes a day in the sun without sunscreen link but it will depend on your complexion and the climate, so you might want to play it safe and stick to 5-10 minutes.
